My mother suspected she was adopted and her parents did not want her to know, although she wanted to know. Cited difficulty in getting her birth certificate when applying for a passport, also her mother's apparent lack of knowledge about childbirth. No evidence the family ever lived in South Carolina, although Natt Wagner was from Buncombe County, N.C. A distant "cousin" now tells me family oral history confirms my mother was adopted. Other Information: I think that my parents were married at the time, and could have other children older than me that would have remained in their family. Its been said that my father was a high ranked officer in the military, and could have been over seas during WW2. I don't think I was ever brought home from the hospital by my b. family. I think my b. name was Michael, but I'm not sure if my b. parents gave me this name or the hospital. I was not adopted until I was 7 weeks old, and the papers were signed in Columbia, S.C. She had one sister age 14 and her mother (Maternal Grand Mother) was 33. She married the maternal grandfather in ?-?-1930 and remarried to step mgf in ?-?-1937. Mgf people were farmers with limited educations. Step mgf was 32 at the birth and was employed at a Mill. Very little is known of the father except it was said that he was the grocery delivery boy. He was 21. Baby Denny (now known as Richard) was placed in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Webster Holley of Andrews SC on 11-20-1946 by the Childrens Bureau of SC. All Other Information: I am searching for my birth father. I have found my birth mother, but she refuses to tell me who my birth father is. I have no idea if he even knows about my birth. She tells me that she just doesn't remember his name. After having many conversations with her, I just don't believe her. My birth mother was sent to the Greenville Rescue Mission in Greenville, S.C. when she found out she was pregnant with me. When she came home from the Greenville Rescue Mission her parents were living in Anderson, SC. Nobody in her family knew she had given birth except for her mother, father, and older sister. She later married Donald Day and moved to Elgin, SC where she resides today. She gave birth and raised 3 daughters and one son. Of course none of them had any idea that I existed until I contacted her years ago. I would appreciate any help in locating my birth father. (Update) I believe birth mother was 17 or 18 when she gave birth to me. I have no idea how old my birth father was. She will tell me nothing about him except that she went with him to his prom and she wore a pink dress. She also has told me that her oldest sister, Edith, said he came to their house looking for my birth mother after she was sent to the unwed mother's home. He was told that she had left town and was visiting family. My birth mother says she never heard from him again. My birth mother has brown eyes and black hair. I have brown eyes and brown hair.

All Other Information: My birth mother lived with my adoptive parents for approximately two months before I was born, but my parents have always insisted that she did not tell them much about herself (which I find difficult to believe). I was told she was from (possibly) Ohio, and that she had previously had a daughter in Florida that was adopted out of a home there. My dad knew the man with which she was living (a boarding home back then), who told him my birth mother was being abused by some man that she had moved in with and that she was pregnant. All attempts have been futile on my part to locate her, as it is unsure whether the name that was given is even correct, although I sued to have the adoption papers released in S.C. a few year back (which failed) the judge did tell me that the Haydon name was what was on the birth certificate. Any help would be appreciated, my father worked for the rail road during this period of time and we were living in the South Kilbourne area of town at the time.

Mayfield from my adoptive mother, the adoption application that my adoptive parents had to fill out and what looks like a surrender form that is partially filled out; I assume by my birth mother to put me up for adoption. I also received some information on the Mayfield Children's Home. Both of my adoptive parents are deceased, I never asked them anything about my adoption. I didn't want to hurt their feelings by asking about my birth parents. Decree of Adoption 6-4-1958. The judge was J. Douglas Montgomery, Clerk of Court was W. Edward Ogburn, Attorney for Petitioners was Harold W. Funderburk and Guardian ad Litem for the minor was Frank E. Rector. The Decree of Adoption jacket says the state of South Carolina, county of Kershaw. In the court of Juvenile Domestic Relations. It also states Harold W. Funderburk attorney at law, Pritchard Court Building, Camden, South Carolina. Adoption was finialized on 6-4-1959. The Summons, Notice, Petition-2-24-1959. Attorney for Petitioners was Harold W. Funderburk. The Decree of Adoption states that I lived with my adoptive parents for 1 year before the adoption became final. I don't know what this is, but on the Decree of Adoption and the Summons, Notice, Petition it says Esquire after some of the names like the attorney and the guardian ad Litem for the minor respondent. I am not sure what this means.

All Other Information: My birth mother was 30 years old when she gave bith to me. That would make her 77 years old at present time. She was 5'10" and weeighed 124#. She drove a french sports car. She came from a family of means and the entire family was well educated. My birth father was never told about me. He is described as 6'2" tall, athletic, and very egotistical. I belive both of them may have been from Spartanburg, SC. But that is just my guess. I just want to thank my birth mother for her unselfishness. I was placed in a very loving home and have had a great life I just wanted you to know that.
