In those days, those things were kept very hush hush. There were no lawyers, this was all done black market under the table adoption. There were two birth certificates found and one was dated on the 15th of August and one on the 16th. We are not sure if this was a typo or she was actually born on the 15th and adopted on the 16th. I do know that my adopted mother knew a lot more than she let on. She told me when I was in my late 30s that supposedly my birth father was an attorney in San diego in practice with his brother who was overseas in the service during the was. His brother's wife remained in San Diego and the two of them got overly friendly one night and I was the result. And I needed to go before my father's brother was discharged from the service. I was born on V.J. Day so I guess my bith uncle was stationed in the Pacific theater, but really don't know. This is all my mother ever told me re my birth parents and to me it sounds like a neat story to base a '40s movie script on. But I am exceptionally smart, extremely logical, and can argue any point cogently and clearly refusing to give in to other people's attempts to use manipulation, insults, or threats to get their way. I am a psychologist with a Ph.D. but had I taken Political Science at the beginning of college instead of my senior year two semesters before graduation, I probably would have chosen Law instead. I was invited by the prof of the Poli. Sci. class to take Constitutional Law the following semester because I did so well in the required class. Otherwise, it may just be a story from my adopted mother's very dramatic imagination. My adopted parents divorced when i was 4 years old and I did not see my father again until I was about to graduate from college. This was at my mother's request, as according to her, it would be better for me if I could forget my father. As if I ever could! He told me that I was actually his biological child from an affair he had with a woman he met while working in Arizona. Because of all of his contacts with physicians through his business, he said that it was easy enough to get one of them to deliver me and pass me off as just a baby the doc had found who was up for adoption and never let my adopted mother know the real origin of my birth. I found this story to be such a horrible betrayal of my mother that at age 19, I almost successfully commited suicide.It wasn't untilI had the above conversation with my adopted mother in my late 30s that I ever had the nerve to tell her what my Dad had told me. She said that it was a total fabrication on his part! and then told me the brothers who were San Diego lawyers story. So I am confused and unsure of what is and isn't the truth. I have three daughters, two of whom are married, and one just became engaged. Before they begin to have children, I feel that I have a responsibility to find out as much as I can about my own biological background as I can. Also, finding that scrap of paper in the envelope with my birth certificate has piqued my own curiosity as well. I would like to at least know what nationalities I come from and something about the background of my birth parents. She said she had only been in California for 2 months when she had my mom. She was 25. The doctor who delivered my mom tried to get more information out of the birth mother, but she wouldn't say much. The woman said that most of the information she was giving my mom was pulled from her brother's file, who was born and given up for adoption 10 years after my mom was born. She had a daughter who lived with her who was 5 years old when my mom was born. She had been married twice. Her first marriage lasted "3-5" years. She had been divorced for 4 years when my mom was born, however the name of her first husband is on my mom's birthcertificate. She married or shacked up with another man either shortly before or after my mom was born. Her father died at age 65 in an auto accident. He was employed as a electrician and musician. Her mother died of "cancer." The file states that it is unclear if my mom's bio-parents were married. Physically she is described as being 5'1, 150, wore glasses and had a "sallow complexion". In my mom's file she said she had never been married. In my mom's brother's file she stated the marriage above. In my mom's file she said she only had a 10th grade education because she dropped out of school due to illness.. In my mom's brother's file she said she graduated from highschool. My mom has at least 4 siblings that are mentioned. Apparently, my grandfather was dating a woman in California and then met Lola Mae Griffin and they married. When he went to officially break it off with this other woman, she was pregnant. Since Lola Mae could not have children, Johnny asked the girl if she would give them the baby. She was distraught by the breakup and agreed to let them have the baby or so the story goes. So, maybe Madera was the hospital or maybe since Lola Mae and Johnny were living in Las Vegas, she came there to have the baby. I have been told that sometimes info like this is just put so if they were a prostitute or such. I do not know. Also I have been told that birth certificates in CA can be altered in many ways so do not know if any info on it is acurate. I checked the CA birth index and found the birth mother name to be the name of my adoptive mother. Whereas my adopted sister(in my adoptive family) was listed with the original mothers name and then another time with her changed name and such. But all of us knew she was adopted. We were too old to keep that a secret, and she was my adopted brothers child so we already knew. My adoptive parents were listed as the petitioners with an address of 244 Peralta St., Hayward. On the "report of physician attending birth & child placed for adoption" paper the case number has been blacked out but there is a big handwritten "F" next to it. Name of mother is blacked out:name of child is blacked out.Attending physician is blacked out. This is a copy they have sent so no physical means of removing the blackening to see what is underneath. The bottom stamp on the page states "return to "state dept of social welfare", and "Market Street, San Francisco" is checked off. I have filled out a consent for contact and returned it.
