This would have been in the 1800's, I think. The last name of the adoptive parents was Suich, which is my last name, and he was adopted in Michigan. That's all that Gramma was able, or willing, to tell me. I would like to track down as much info as I can about his biological and adoptive families. Where should I start? Would the records of his adoption and families still exist? How accurate would they be? How willing is Michigan to release these records? I found out a few years ago that the original spelling of my last name may have been Szucz, and that it means furrier or fur-taker, in Hungarian. I get the impression from Gramma that her father-in-law's parents weren't immigrants themselves, but she was even a little vague on this point. I'm not sure in what part of Michigan they lived. What we know is that the biological father is John F. Moriarty Jr. We think that the biological mother was a Dorothy Hall who was married to a man named Les Hall. She worked at the Warnaco Inc. offices in NYC as did my Father. We think she retired to Eugene, Oregon. She would be in her 80's today. The adopted Child, my half sister, was probably born between ?-?-1950 and ?-?-1955 or 55-60 years old today. The adoptive parents were Americans who were stationed with the USA State department (Embassy) in Paris, France. Every adoptive agency has to be checked for J.F. Moriarty Jr. as the biological father. We are looking for the name of the adoption agency probably in one of these three: Washington DC (place where adoptive parents probably lived before being posted to France; NYC (place where adoptive mother lived and worked at the time), and Ohio (probable birth state of mother.) In 2002, my half sister, tried to contact my father, her biological father through the adoption agency. He was suffering from alzheimers at the time and so my mother (not hers) intercepted the letter and was angry. The letter is now destroyed and its contents mostly forgotten; the information was kept secret from me 2009 shortly before my mother died. The letter was destroyed but this is what we know from that letter: 1) the biological father was John F. Moriarty Jr. 2) The biological mother was probably Dorothy Hall. 3) the age of my half sister is probably between 55-60 years old. 4) Adoptive parents were Americans working in the USA state department in Paris France where my half sister spent the early part of her life. She speaks French. Adoption agency could be in Washington DC or NYC or Ohio, possible home of biological mother. Biological mother was/is (?) married to a Les Hall. Biological Mother might be living in Eugene Oregon. My half sister would not know the name of her biological father.
