All Other Information: Family lore says that John Hopkins was an out-of-wedlock child born to a Hopkins male and his mistress. But it is possible the father was a Mac Gulphin. His descendants are quite certain this was a family adoption. John Hopkins was raised in Schenectady, so that may be where he was born and adopted. I'm not exactly sure who named him. All Other Information: Mary Blake is my maternal grandmother. She had three older siblings: Anna Blake (b. 9-5-1885) Thomas Blake (b. 3-1-1888) and Edward Joseph Blake (b. 3-17-1892). All four children were baptized in Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington, NY. When their mother died on 3-18-1896, their father was unable to care for them. My grandmother's three siblings were placed with the Sisters of Mercy in Tarrytown, NY on 4-20-1896. My grandmother was sent to the New York Foundling Hospital in NYC on 6-2-1896, from which she was subsequently adopted. She never saw her father or siblings again. I know that her sister and paternal aunt (Mary Blake Spohn) tried to find my grandmother - I have a copy of a letter from Mrs. Spohn addressed to the NY Foundling demanding to know the whereabouts of my grandmother. Apparently, they were unsuccessful in obtaining the information. My grandmother's children never even knew she was adopted until after her death in 1962. I would dearly love to find out what happened to my grandmother's father and siblings and determine if any of them have any living descendents. I recently found out that Edward Joseph Blake married Marguerite May Biehl on 7-12-1924 in Rockland County, NY, but died on 7-21-1934 in Spring Valley, NY (Rockland County) before they ever had any children. I have been unable to locate my grandmother's other brother, Thomas, or her sister, Anna, past the 1910 census and do not know what became of their father after the children were placed in the two orphanages.

Anna relinquished Marian Gray, 6-13-1916, to the Sisters, at the New York Foundling Hospital. Marian was baptized 6-14-1916, by Rev. R. Rumaggi, (chaplain at the time) at the New York Foundling Hospital / Orphanage. Marian Gray remained at the NY Foundling Hospital / Orphanage for the next two years. In 1918, Marian Gray was placed on the Orphan Train to the State of Minnesota where she was met on 6-13-1918 by Emma and Paul Revier. For the next five years, while living with the Revier Family, Marian continued to use her birth name, Marian Gray, until she was legally adopted by the Riviers. At that time Marian Gray became Marian Revier. Any help would be most welcomed. Thank you.

He was given the name Gerard Grey at birth. The record shows that his mother's name was Mary Grey, age 23 born in Coxsackie, N.Y. His father's name was William Cleary, age 21, born in the U.S. His birth certificate # is 24229. He remained in the hospital until 12-12-1918. From there he went on the Orphan's Train to Crookston, Minnesota and was adopted by a family named Gould. I was told that Sister Cecilia Schneider was his social-worker. My daughter in-law has been unable to find any possible relatives could you help us or tell us what to do to find some information. Thank you

All Other Information: In 1925 his Mother was murdered by his father when Manuel was 3 years old, his sister was 2 years old. Social services refused to allow mother's family to adopt them. They were taken to the Cayuga Asylum for Destitute Children in Auburn NY. Family was then told that they were adopted. I do know that the Sister was sent from Auburn to New York City. All Other Information: I am the great niece of the named adoptee. I have no details on the adoption of this child or where my great-grandparents got him. At the time they lived in Queens Village at 235th Street. They had a 6 year old adopted daughter as well. Her adoption did not go through until 1930 and was handled by an attorney named Louis Felix. He may have also handled this little boys adoption. Alice Kendrick was a buyer for a department store. James Kendrick was a chauffeur. Some time later in 1934 they also adopted an infant female child. In the papers on this adoption they used false names and addresses (Hendricks). They may have possibly done the same in the adoption of the little boy. The only identifying info I have on him is that he had a heart shaped birth mark on his left forearm. In early photos he appears to have light colored eyes and hair. I know that the birth dates of the two female children were falsified. The little boys birth date was always written as 7-28-1929. However this may be off by a few months or so.

The only information I have from a relative is that he was legally adopted in NYC by a Spanish Nurse and it was a legitimate adoption. I've researched and found a Becker family who told me where he was baptized and I just learned that he was born 10-5-1930 and baptized in this church 12-21-1930. They are sending me the record but no baptismal info. Somehow in my search for my ancestry, I came upon his birth daughter who is searching for him. divorced her birth mother and she has not seen him since she's two years old. So in my search for my family history we met each other and I'm trying every avenue to find little Christie Becker who would be 80 now if he is still alive.

Although the relinquishment papers state that the adoptive parents last name was Hendricks their name was actually Kendrick. The birth mother stated that the childs father was deceased. On the birth certificate it says that this birth mother had two other children. The papers were drawn up by an attorney named Paul T. Love located on Broadway. This baby had a head full of red hair. It was said that the birth mother was a dancer and also had red hair. Although I have used the term adoption here many times this child was never legally adopted by her new family. Marie was baptized 3-4-1936 at St. Vincent Ferrer's Roman Catholic Church (the whole family was Catholic) in Manhattan. I've been told my birth name was Claire Spiers. According to them, I was shipped to several foster homes before being adopted by Nathan and Anna ! Margaret Beardslee, who lived in the Bronx, New York at that time. Four years later they adopted Donald Robert Beardslee, whom you located for his daughter.
