All Other Information: Bessie Shreves was a second mother to me and my sister. She helped my mother and father in exchange for living with us. Mother always said she was related to us. She is gone to heaven now, but we loved her very much. She worked as a servant to another of our ancestors, Benjamin Brinton from Iowa, in the 1925 Iowa census. In the Iowa 1905 Census directory, she is listed as at same address as Dorcus Shreves, widow of Jonathan Shreves, also of Iowa. In this directory, the lived at Brighton, Iowa. My home town. I have found that Jonathan and Dorcus adopted a daughter, Annice Lind. With Bessie's father's last name being Lind, I am trying to find if Bessie might be Annice's birth sister and if Dorcus and Jonathan adopted her also because as a child, I only knew her last name to be Shreves. Sometimes spelled Shreeves. some of this information I gathered from different Iowa census. I also know that she lived in Answorth, Iowa as a servant to a man named Cady.Bessie never married. This I was told by my mother. Mom died in 2002 and my father has alzimers and only 1 uncle and 1 aunt left, with no more info. I loved this woman and want her to be more than a servant in my geneology reserch results. She needs her rightful place listed in the family history pages. please help me. thank Bessie died 3-15-1967 at the age of 90. She died in Washington, Iowa USA. Buried at the Brighton, Iowa, Hillcrest cemetary. Her tombstone lies close to Jonathan and Dorcus Stones. Jonathan was a civil war union soldier 1898-1925. (Update) Bessie Shreves had blue eyes and ? hair, but when I knew her, it was pure white, not a yellow white. Bessie was 4'9" tall. Don't know anything about birth parents. I want to frnd out more about her birth father, where she was born, if she had more birth siblings, adoped date.doing geneology research and I feel this is important. can't seem to get anywhere, Please help.

All Other Information: Mabel is now deceased. Her married name was Haeffner (husband Claude). She was born at Lincoln Hospital and the doctor involved was Dr. Walter Neyman Ramey. He was associated with this hospital and also the Lincoln Medical College, which I think, had to do with Seven Day Advents, which was the religion of Mabel's adoptive parents. Mabel was an only child. Both hospitals are closed. Not sure what happened to birth records. Any help you can give me in locating possible birth family would be great. Even though birth parents would be deceased, possibly she had other siblings or other birth family. Mabel always wanted to search but didn't. I am doing this for her son, Terry, my husband. Mabel was raised in Cortland, Gage County, Nebraska. (Update) When younger, Mabel’s hair was dark, brown I think. Not sure about color of eyes but I think blue. (Update) Mabel Rosella Meserve. She was born in Lincoln, Nebraska but the adoption took place on 1-21-1913 in Gage County, Nebraska. The Gage County Judge was H.D. Walden. Mabel was apparently a ward of the “Board of Control for Dependent Children, located at Lincoln, Nebraska”, and the “State Agent for Dependent Children” was a Miss Etta Caton, Lincoln, Nebraska. Miss Caton testified at the adoption proceedings on 1-21-1913.

In 1920, Robert William Mastin Jr. was listed as adopted son. This was in Olive, Saline, Nebraska. I cannot find any other information on him. The adoptive fathers name is Robert William Mastin Sr. His birthdate is 5-2-1887 and date of death is 5-3-1941. He was married to May A. Mastin in 1899. I do not have a date of birth or date of death for May A. Mastin. It has her listed as born in Wisconsin. Father born in Canada, Mother born in England. All he told us was his birth families name was Johnson, which also just happens to be his mothers maiden name... Connection ? I don't know. He had some medical issues when he was older, died of cancer, and we would like to know of others medical histories, but the family itself as well. He is listed as 'son' on the 1930 census in North Platte, and as 5 years old. we do not know how old he was when adopted. (Update) We were never sure, of birth race but he was dark / almost olive skinned - He used to say he thought he was French descent - I have no idea. Listed himself as caucasian. Robert Wayne Stearns was 5'6" tall, and about 150 lbs @ death - We know nothing about birth parents. He rarely even spoke of any of this. He had very dark brown eyes and very dark brown hair.

We were told that Dad went to Milford with quite a few other orphans. He told us that he found his birth mother in Milford, NE, but there was no contact. All Other Information: My mother was told she had a girl, born with no rectal opening. She was told not to change the diaper, as it would be too upsetting to her, so she never saw the babies genital area. For the next 2 weeks, my mother was told the nurses would care for the baby, and my mother never saw her baby again. At the end of 2 weeks, the nurses told my mother her baby had died, and that they would take care of everything for her. My mother never saw her baby after she was supposed to have died. For the rest of her life my mother believed her baby had died. In recent years the news has told of cases similar to this, where the baby didn't die, but was adopted out. Since my mother never saw proof that her baby was a girl, or that her baby really did die, I believe it is probable that her baby, which could be either gender, was illegally adopted. The birth father had moved out of the state before the baby was born.

Adoptee Information: The information I gave you earlier has changed a bit or I have found a bit more. Robert was born in Omaha, Neb. Douglas County and his family was from that area also. Lois and Robert were married in Omaha, later divorced on 10-3-1956 District Court-Douglas County-(4th Judicial Dist,) (Neb.) At the time of my birth he owned a 45 record company and also had Hamlin Plumber Service. His parents and sister (her last name Cary) moved to Glendale California.
