We received a precious baby boy from Bethany, and his arrival into our family was truly the most exciting thing that has ever happened to us (It's hard to believe that he will turn two this spring!) Before our son joined our family, we had been trying to have a child for four years. Even after a myriad of tests and treatments, I still couldn't conceive a child. The darkest day of my life was when my doctor called to share some test results which indicated I would probably never be able to have a baby. For a period of time, my husband and I grieved over the child we would never have, but we soon realized we could still become parents through adoption. After discovering we were unable to have children, we felt this was how God would answer our prayer for a child and we have never regretted this decision. My husband and I often share of how much joy and fulfillment our son has brought into our lives and we couldn't imagine life without him. I could go on endlessly concerning how becoming parents has enriched our lives, but the purpose of this letter is to share some personal information about us as a couple. We will share some information about our little boy as well. To begin, I would like to share some physical data with you. My husband and I are in our thirties (33 and 35) and we both have brown hair and brown eyes. I am 5' 4" and weigh 117 pounds and my husband is 6' 3" and weighs 205 pounds. We both eat healthy foods and exercise regularly (I attend aerobics classes and he plays basketball.) We have been happily married almost ten years and our relationship is one of love and trust. We feel our being married 7 ½ years before beginning our family gave us an opportunity to complete our education and also truly know one another and prepare for parenthood (In retrospect, though, I realize there is no way to completely prepare for parenthood, for it is a bigger responsibility than one could ever imagine! We feel, though, that we have adjusted to the added responsibility of raising children and are ready for a second child.) We have always felt positive becoming parents because we are both products of happy homes. My husband's parents are loving people who have been in the ministry over 50 years. They raised their three children to know and serve Jesus Christ. They live a short distance from us and we see them often. My parents are Christians as well, and I have always felt their love and concern. I am thankful they raised me and my two sisters in the church. I am thankful that our son has loving grandparents, aunts, and uncles and plenty of cousins, as most of our siblings have children. My husband and I are both ordained ministers, having obtained our Master of Divinity degrees from seminary, and others in our family are college-educated. We believe education is very important and, if our children desire to go to college, we will do all we can to help them achieve their college education. Also, we work together and our flexible schedule enables us to spend a lot of time with our son. I feel so fortunate that I have been able to stay home and be a full time mother and I plan to continue to do so. I feel I would miss out on so much if I had to work outside the home. My husband is able to spend many hours with his son and this has helped foster a strong relationship between the two. I am so thankful that he is as close to his dad as he is to me. We all spend much time together as a family, at home and away. We enjoy going to the childrenÂ's museum, fair, zoo, etc. Even though our work hours are flexible, we have a stable income. Also, we live in a spacious brick home situated on 2 ½ acres at the edge of a small town. There is a huge yard in which to run and play. We have nice neighbors and are quite happy here. The small town of 8,000 in which we live is a wonderful place to raise children. One assets of our community is our park, a beautiful setting for weekly summer bands concerts. Also, we have a shopping center, library, restaurants, and we are only 15 or 20 miles from a larger city. Our town has an excellent school system and a brand new high school. We enjoy spending a lot of time with our son. We truly enjoy reading to him, teaching him new words or just playing! What little leisure time is left, we spend either on separate interests or doing things together as a couple such as watching television or working on our new home. We have many interests associated with our ministry. My husband is a musician as well as a minister (He has recorded five albums), and he enjoys working on his music. I have a background in piano and also occasionally attend art or craft classes. My husband and I both have accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior and we take our faith seriously. We read our Bibles each day and have a prayer time. We attend church together as a family on Sunday mornings. Our son has blonde hair and blue eyes and is a beautiful little boy! He is extremely good-natured and loves to laugh and plays with us, by himself or with other children. Once a week or so, I take him to an excellent babysitter so heÂ'll have an opportunity to play with other children his age. Already he knows many words and is very expressive. The greatest thing we could ever wish for our children is that only He can give and whatever direction they choose for their lives, we just want them to be fulfilled. For now, we just want our children to feel loved and accepted for who they are. From the very beginning, they will know they are adopted (We are already beginning to share this word with our son), and we will tell them of how God miraculously answered our prayers for a child! Our children will know they are loved by their birthmothers even though circumstances didn't permit them to be kept and that have birthparents that care and will never forget them.
