All Other Information: I am trying to figure out how to trace the birth parents of a canadian child adopted in about 1900. The child was my grandmother. She is on the 1900 US census living in Melrose. The head of household was William Earl. I assume he was a "Foster Parent". There are four other children, under the age of 10, all with different last names, shown on the census register. I know she was "adopted" by John and Ellen Kittredge. She appears on the 1910 census in the city of Ayer, MA. Her name is still shown as Steadman in this census. She shows as Kittredge in all future census records. I don't even know how to start looking for birth or immigration records, and thought that "experts" in modern adoption might be able to give me some ideas on how to start researching something this old. I have conflicting info--2 birth weights,and my original bassinet card from hospital--date of birth crossed out and changed. Also I believe some info may have been changed-mother told me about my half brother, 3 years older- but when I said I thought I may be a twin, she said"don't give up on that idea". She gave me very little info and never wanted to meet me. Apparently, back when I was adopted,it was unusual to be born in one county, and adopted in another. This is what happened in my case. My maternal birthgrandmother aparently "took in" foster kids--my half brother was raised by maternal grandparents--maybe he was passed off as a foster child? Her last name was Foance. She remarried after her first husband died when my mother was 13.Birth mother born in 1-23(?)-1933 My birth was kept a secret. My birth mother siblings-the only one alive was too young to know anything. I am in contact with a female cousin on my mother's side. My half brother unfortunately was unable to furnish much info--He himself was told nothing about his own birth father(different)and died of a brain tumor one year after I met him. My father was told nothing about my birth and didn't know anything about the circumstances. His widow and I are in contact. Am listed on Canadian Adoptees website, and Adoption disclosure registry. As per registered letter from Adoption Disclosure, my birth mother is still living in St. Catharines, Ontario, and has been at the same address for 30 years now. She had immigrated to Canada from Yugoslavia. She was living in Thunder Bay when she became pregnant. She traveled to Blind River to have child and give it away. After Rita died, Nadean was raised by Rita's mother, Mary Thelland in Blind River. In 2-?-1955, after Rita's death, Mary took Nadean to hospital to meet Mother Superior who was involved in informal adoption. M Superior told Mary that birth mother and birth father had married after birth mother returned to Thunder Bay. Birth mother had met birth father at St. Joseph Hospital in Thunder Bay where they both worked. Birth father was an intern there.

She may have had the baby girl around Hamilton, Ont. or she may have had the baby in NY State. Most likely around Buffalo. An American couple adopted the child. All Other Information: Children's Aid became in involved when I was 11 months old, and abondon by my mother. I was in a boarding home in St. Thomas until I became a ward of the Crown in 1956. In 1961 I was placed in Foster Care with Blanche & Cleston Eden in St. Thomas Ontario. In 1962 I was diagnosed with having a developmental disability and placed at Southwestern Regional Center until 1972. I have found my birth mother, Mary Louise. She is living in a nursing home in Hamilton Ontario. She is not willing to share information about my birth father. My birth parents were married in New Brunswick in 1951 and they were married for about 1.5 years. I know that my birth mother has 4 siblings, Leo Herbert born 1926, Norman Herbert born 1928, Ida Herbert 1930 and James Herbert born 1940. I have very little information about my father's side of the family. I think he was born in Portage River New Brunswick on 10-5-1923 ? I think he has 2 brothers and 1 sister. I believe his sister lives in the Ottawa area had 5 children. My father's mother died of gangrene when he was six, 1929 and the family was Roman Catholic. My father lived with one of his unmarried sons (my uncle) in New Brunswick. My father had another brother in New Brunswick who had a large family.

All Other Information: My Grandparents were foster parents associated with The Salvation Army for many years. Upto as many as 25 children. One other child was leagally adpoted via this process as well. Uncle James Emroy (Silver) Kirby. Grandmother and grandfather both deceased. Father Mr. Ronald Kenneth Kirby recently passed away. 9-30-2010. I am his only offspring, and daughter. (Update) It is believed he does have a younger sibling. Apparently, both of Dads biological parents are from Oshawa. They were not married at the time my Father was born but later on the married and had another son together. My Uncle said he recalled a conversation between my Dad and Grandmother about his birth Mother passing away. My Father was placed in The Kirby home around 6 months of age but not formally adopted until around the age of 5, so 1960 or so. He says he thinks it had to do with the registration to send my Dad to school. He attended E.A.Lovell Public School but was only ever known as Ronald Kenneth Kirby. Ronald Kenneth was his birth name they only changed his last name. My Father had light brown hair and light blue eyes and very fair complexion. He suffered from morbid obesity for most of my 34 years of life and all of the other health conditions that come with that so it is very had to determine if he had any hereditary disorders. He died of heart attack only 8 weeks away from having his scheduled gastric bi-pass surgery. (Update) Both adoptive parents are deceased. Birth mother deceased ?-?-1963. 19 years old when she gave birth. She had 5 siblings. Birth mother had 4 other children besides Ronald all which were adopted out. All Other Information: I did get non disclosure info but gave to mom b4 she died age 57. Adoptive mother hairdresser adoptive father railway worker - stated they would tell him he was adopted...mom was only 13 and dad was 15 when they produced michael. I dont think dad is listed on birth records. Mom was diagnosed with Sceleraderma at 47 and died from it at 57....Michael should get medical history and he has 4 younger sisters all wanting to meet him. Dad does not want to upset Michaels life but would be happy to meet him. I did not know about birth sibling untill my teen years when my uncle told me. I never asked mom about it untill she was sick. She did not want to upset anyone and thought looking for him would not be what an adopted boy would want. I have been listed with c a s for a reunion for approx 20 years.
