My Grandmother died in 2003 never knowing who her birth mother was. She loved her adoptive parents dearly but was longed to know who her birth mother was. The story told to my grandmother, Ruth Pauline Ball, is that her adoptive sister (in her 20's at the time) told Scott and Sarah Ball that there was a baby in town for adoption. She talked them into adopting my grandmother. Sister's name was Maggie May Ball Green. Ruth Pauline Ball may have been born in "Refuge Home". It was a maternity home run by the Church of Nazarene in Hutchinson, Reno county, Kansas.

All Other Information: My mother, Kay Brinkman (maiden) Laird who is 67, was just looking at her birth certificate. She is the eldest child of two. However, on the certificate, it states that her mother said she had 1 other live child at the time of my mother's birth. As my mother and I discussed this, both her parents are deceased, we realized that her parents very may well have had a child out of wedlock because her mother quit the University of Kansas with only 1 semester left because her "knees hurt." My mother would love to see if there is any registry of Maxine Gooch having a baby in Kansas. The four top locations would probably be: Wichita, Ft. Scott (Bourbon County), Lawrence or Kansas City. My mother's name is Kay Brinkman. Her mother's name was Maxine Gooch Brinkman, born to William Sanford Gooch and Laura Grace Buckner in Mapleton, Kansas. The Gooches lived most of their lives in Ft. Scott, where William Sanford Gooch was a physician. The potential year of birth of baby Gooch would have been early 1930's, and probably in the last 6 months of 1932 or 1933. Mary's parents were Drew & Goldie Dobosh. I think in 1930 Goldie was in Dodge City KS, county was Ford, in 1910 in Valley KS, Rice county. So it's hard to say where and when she married Drew Dobosh and where Mary was born or where they resideded and were Mary went to HS. Drew & Goldie Dobosh also adopted Mary.
