G'S Adoption Registry

1998

We started this website as a tool to help my wife, Danna, find her birth family and her medical history. We had looked at other web pages and there were good ones out there but most were a struggle to use.  There were often costs associated with the search.

We made a lot of mistakes as we searched for her birth family, and we thought that there had to be another way. We decided to build our own site to find her birth family, and also, to have a resource for others who were at various stages in their journey.
 
The registry first started out with Minnesota births. That only lasted for a week or two and then we got the first request to add a new state. Before long we had all of the states in the USA.

2002

We added Germany and Canada as searching countries.  Since then we have added many countries and the list has grown to an impressive "United Searching Community".


2003

We found Danna's birth mother. It was not an easy process to locate her, but it was rewarding when we did. It takes a lot of leg work in some cases to get a "found" and our case required a lot of leg work. It was a great experience.

2004

First contact 1-3-2004 with Danna's birth mother our entire family, including Danna's adoptive father and our children went along to the first meeting. We met in a safe place for all - a restaurant. 

2006

We changed the name to G'S Adoption Registry.  Our focus had stopped being just the searching community in the USA back in 2002 and the name change made sense....And it was shorter to type. :-) 

2007

January 31st, 2007.....
A day that changed our families life forever and a sad day for the searching community. Danna, The love of my life and the light of many, passed away suddenly at the age of 43. Sadly, her birth father or birth brother have not been located.
I have decided to dedicate my life to this registry in her memory, this is not a job for me, It is a passion.

Since the start of this registry this has been a volunteer supported site and funded solely thru donations. 

This registry has had many great volunteers helping thru out the years.   Our team of Search Angels has helped so many find so much.  Whether they have helped to unite a family, or to answer questions along the way, they have been there - like a guiding light to offer support, resources and sometimes just a person on the other end of an email - who knows what it is to search. 

We do it all without charging anyone.. anything.  We do appreciate you reading our story and your support. 

Many have asked - and I will let it remain a mystery - but the hint is that "G'S" does not stand for Gary Schaefer.
